Web Design
Broadly speaking there are two ways you can get a web site. You can go the DIY route, or you can pay someone else to build it for you. Here is a brief list of your options.
DIY
The easiest and cheapest way to produce a web site is to learn HTML/CSS and simply use Notepad. No expensive software to buy (but you do need to learm both HTML and CSS).
You could buy a ready made template and simply add your details to it. Costs ranges from £20 upwards. You may not be able to find a design that you like, or that fits in with your idea of what you want your site to look like.
Paid for Design
The other option is to get some one else to produce the site for you. Remember that you are in the driving seat. So you dictate what you want, not the other way round. The only limiting factor here should be how much you want to spend. It's also a good idea to get more than one quote.
With both options you will also need Hosting and a Domain Name.
